40th Anniversary to the Priesthood

On May 13, 2006 the parishioners of St. John the Evangelist Church celebrated the 40th anniversary of Father Mathieu's Ordination into the Priesthood.

At the end of the 4:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday we offered our Best Wishes. Cathy Gomm made a speech and Sandra Belanger (President of the Catholic Womens' League) and Judy Hywarren (Chairperson of the Parish Pastoral Council) on behalf of the parishioners, each presented Father with a card as a token of our appreciation. Mariette Hickey presented him with a beautiful bouquet of red roses. Following Father's speech the Choir led us singing "Happy Anniversary". It was a wonderful show of love for our Pastor.

On Sunday morning Gerhard Schinko made a speech on behalf of the Knights of Columbus and Marie Bardswich spoke on behalf of the Parish Leadership Team. They both extended best wishes to Father and presented him with a card of appreciation. Father thanked us for the show of love and the Choir led the assembly singing "Happy Anniversary". Everyone joined in the celebration.

Today is a very special day for our Pastor.

Forty years ago today Father Mathieu was ordained a Priest.

Father, we want to take this opportunity

to congratulate you on your 40th Anniversary!

We have been very fortunate to have you as our Pastor

for the past 12 years.

Your leadership has brought forth

many positive changes at St. John's.

Our faith community has grown stronger,

our spirituality has become enriched

and we have truly become one as a Parish.

Your homilies have taught us to live our lives

with Christian values

and have kept us grounded to faith

in today's complex world.

Your caring ways have touched many hearts

and we are grateful for all you have done for us.

Most of all, Father, we thank you for being you!

St. John's Catholic Women's League also wish to thank you

for all your support and guidance as Spiritual Advisor.

The Parish Pastoral Council, on behalf of your parishioners,

join their voices to ours

as we offer our best wishes

and ask the Lord to keep blessing you

with all things that are good.
