ST. JOHN’S C.W.L. CELEBRATES 70TH ANNIVERSARY

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Women’s League celebrated its 70th Anniversary on April 30th, 2008, commencing with Mass at 7:00 p.m. for the 70th Anniversary and Feast of Our Lady of Good Counsel. The 9 members of the CWL executive assisted in the Mass with Hospitality, Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Offerings and carrying the CWL Banner, while other members participated by carrying the Cross and Candles, were in the Choir and all members were in the Procession before the Mass.

Members and parishioners were invited to a reception in the Church Hall following the Mass.  Approximately 76 persons were in attendance for the event, including 55 CWL members 

 

President, Cathy Gomm, welcomed everyone to the reception.  Everyone was invited to check out the CWL History mementos, current League reference materials and items for Spiritual Development, Community Life and Resolutions that were displayed on tables to learn more about St. John’s CWL, its history and what is happening now.  A video played throughout the evening depicting past events held by the CWL.  Photo albums from years gone by were also placed on the tables for all to view.  A 70th Anniversary Bookmark was given to

evryone as a memento for the occasion.

 

Lil Bergeron, a former Past President, spoke on the history St. John the Evangelist’s CWL since its charter in February of 1938.  The Catholic Women’s League in Falconbridge was formed in 1935 and joined with St. John’s CWL in September, 1969.  Lil spoke on the many accomplishments of the CWL members over the years and how they continue to work together as a Team in all that they do.

 

Father Mathieu was presented with a Birthday Card/Gift and Happy Birthday was sung to Father and others celebrating their birthdays this month.

 

Cathy Gomm thanked everyone for their assistance with the Mass and with the Reception.

 

Cake and Refreshments were served and enjoyed by all.
