JUNE 24, 2008 C. W. L. AWARDS TO THE BOY AND GIRL WHO MOST EXEMPLIFIES CHRISTIAN VALUES

It gives me great pleasure to be with you on this your special day, the day of your graduation.  Congratulations to this graduating class of 2008!  St. John’s Catholic Women’s League is honoured to have the opportunity to present an award to the boy and girl of your class who most exemplifies Christian values.

These students have displayed an understanding of the call to love one another to which our Heavenly Father has called all his children, they volunteer without being asked, and do it joyfully not seeking glory for themselves but for the benefit of everyone, for the common good.

I am certain that all our young people here are also in the habit of helping others and do so whenever the occasion presents itself and for all the right reasons.   It is all the little things we do for others … and especially when we do them freely and joyfully that helps us to make the corner of the world we live in, a better place to live.  When we see someone in need, we rise to the occasion and come to their aid and we do it because it is the right thing to do.

Being Christians, we are followers of Jesus Christ.  Through the Gospels Jesus teaches us how to be caring and considerate of others, he shows us how to love one another and teaches us that peace and harmony bring joy to everyone, that bullying and being mean to others only brings sorrow and hostility.  During the years you have spent here at St. John’s School you have been taught Christian values which you will carry with you for the rest of your life, which will always help you to become good citizens - nice people – true children of God ….

Come September you will be stepping into another phase of your life journey – your high school years.  We extend our best wishes to each and everyone of you as you continue your education.

It gives me great pleasure to present this token of recognition, on behalf of St. John’s Catholic Women’s League
