RECONCILIATION

A SACRAMENT IS:  A personal encounter with the Risen Christ

celebrated within the Church, He created

to be His presence here and now

                                     to offer to all humanity

his victory over sin and death

                                     and restoring us

to the image and likeness of His Father.

THERE ARE FOUR IMPORTANT ELEMENTS

IN THE SACRAMENT

THAT YOU ARE SHARING

IN YOUR CHILD’S PREPARATION

FOR THIS ENCOUNTER (MEETING)

WITH JESUS CHRIST.

CONFESSION:         to admit that I have deliberately

                                    broken a covenant of love,

                                    I professed in Baptism

                                    - to love God and my neighbour.

CONTRITION:         (Prayer of Sorrow) a true sorrow

                                    for what I have done

                                    by word or deed

or failed to do (sins of omission).

FORGIVENESS:       Absolution, the forgiveness of sins

                                    by Jesus Christ

                                    - through his minister the priest.

PENANCE and RECONCILIATION:

the sincerity of my confession (admit)

                                    and contrition (sorrow)

is my desire to make amends

                                    for what I have done,

                                    to be reconciled

with the one I have offended

and to see them ina new way,

the way christ looks at them.
